The Project Engineer / Estimator assists the General Manager by providing support in project estimation and management of Metal Design projects. Understanding of the importance of the entire set of bid documents including plans, specifications, and addenda is indicative of their growing focus on the big picture.
Prepare cost estimates for product manufacturing, construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service. May specialize according to particular service performed or type of product manufactured.
Estimating and preparing proposals for projects
• Have a thorough understanding of Metal Design's fabrication and installation capabilities
• Download, reproduce and/or distribute plans and specifications
• Read and interpret construction documents and plans
• Use computer aided software to assist with project estimation
• Quantity takeoff and pricing based on material estimates
• Create quotes and proposals based on material estimates
• Bid package preparation and bid day activities
• Track Invitation to Bid responses and schedule deposit
• Maintain working relationship with owners, contractors and colleagues
• Develop and maintain preconstruction specific filing systems
Project Management
• Create submittal packages
• Change order negotiations
• Review and respond to Construction Bulletins
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating upcoming workflow
• Conduct bid result evaluations
• Order and schedule delivery of materials
• Participate in productivity initiative (track finished work to schedule/goal)
General Responsibilities
• Protect confidential information and Metal Design Operations
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge
• Safety planning and remain OSHA compliant
• Assignment of larger and more challenging responsibilities as experience and expertise is gained
