This position is accountable for managing all Warehousing and Transportation activities for the facility while implementing, maintaining, and supporting continuous improvement in the Five Focus Areas of Operational Excellence: Safety, People, Service, Quality, and Cost. This position is also responsible for maintaining continuous improvement efforts for the facility by using the tools of Six Sigma, maintaining ISO certification, focusing on customer needs, and supporting the facility goals of maintaining VPP Certification. The Operations Manager is key member of management team supporting the site Safety program and achievement of site Environmental, Health and Safety goals. Management activities focus on asset utilization, cost control, productivity, and service levels, ensuring conformity to goals and objectives, training and motivating of subordinates, and supporting continuous improvement in the Five Focus Areas of Operational Excellence. This position is also accountable for motivating and developing direct reports: Warehouse Manager and Dispatchers. In addition, the selected candidate will play a vital role in maintaining VPP Star status. The position will utilize various tools to achieve goals in continuous improvement such as; Six Sigma, ISO Standards, VPP Guidelines and lead the facility in Sustainability efforts.
Core Tasks Include but are not limited to:
- Determine and establish procedures, programs and reports to maintain and improve safety, housekeeping, quality, shipping and receiving standards and employee morale.
- Determine, oversee and positively affect controlled Facility budget.
- Coordinate and plan work requirements for all areas of the warehouse to ensure all jobs are completed in an efficient manner and orders are shipped with the appropriate time frames.
- Supervise and direct Warehouse Managers and Dispatchers to assure safe, timely, cost effective shipping and receiving methods.
- Conducting Performance Appraisals in a timely manner for all direct reports.
- Recommending and establishing Management Development programs and training schedules to prepare subordinates for promotional opportunities.
- Making recommendations and establishing requirements to meet and exceed productivity and quality goals.
- Direct and oversee those activities that ensure the Facility is capable of meeting all pertinent requirements (regulatory, corporate, group, production, etc.).
- Identify shipment consolidation opportunities in order to minimize freight costs.
- Recommend changes and/or enhancements to warehousing systems.
- Ensure shipments are distributed in compliance with V.O.C. State regulatory laws.
- Ensure shipments are distributed in compliance with V.O.C. State regulatory laws.Ensure Hazardous Material shipments are properly handled, loaded, packed, and marked in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Protect the security of all assets of the DSC.
- Participate in long range strategic planning with ADD.
- Responsible for the Inventory and tracking of 40 or more tractors.
- Minimize empty miles through external sales/backhauls.
- Accomplish goals consistent with operating plans and budgets of the region.
- Meeting established Safety goals as well as protecting the security of all assets. Implement continuous improvement activities to minimize preventable accidents.
- Establish and ensure all warehouse manning requirements are met. Analyze workforce requirements and make recommendations in accordance with those needs.
- Ensuring Customer requirements are met including on time shipments and fill rates.
- Providing a positive and motivating atmosphere through consistent and effective communication with all warehouse employees and company drivers.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a four year Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or eight years of work experience
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment now or in the future without sponsorship for employment visa status
Must have 3 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or operations environment.
Must have experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point and/or Access)
Other Qualifications:
Formal training and/or experience with continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, or Transactional Lean, etc. is preferred
Degrees in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or other related field preferred
Demonstrated leadership, team building, employee development, and employee relations skills.
Proven track record of results in a manufacturing, distribution or operations environment
Experience managing in a 24/7 manufacturing or distribution environment preferred
Solid analytical and decision making skills
Demonstrated understanding of supply chain systems, safety systems and programs
Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, Etc.) is preferred
Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) experience and knowledge preferred
