JOB DESCRIPTION
Watson is seeking a dynamic and curious individual to join our Product Development Team. Responsibilities include the following, but other duties may be assigned:
- Develop and refine product designs for efficiency using knowledge of materials and processes for sheet metal, tubular steel, molded plastic, extruded materials and laminated composite wood products
- Estimate labor and material costs for new designs
- Engineer-to-order functions for both standard and modified product
- Establish and write product family configuration rules
- Establish fit and function quality standards for new products
- Support manufacturing engineers implementing production fixtures and processes
- Conduct CAD model reviews
- Conduct First Article Inspections
- Execute Engineering Changes (ECs)
REQUIREMENTS
Qualified applicants must have a BS in Engineering or similar technical discipline. Candidates must be able to perform product engineering using parametric 3D modeling software. A working knowledge of project management, creating and maintaining project timelines, tolerance analysis and specification, and an understanding of Quality Control practices is needed. Experience with highly configurable product lines is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with any or all of the following a plus: wood products, laminates, adhesives, functional hardware, injection molding, extrusions, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machinery/programming, rapid prototyping technologies, material sourcing, costing, process improvement. Experience with the following software preferred: Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Visual Basic (for Applications or .net) MS Office Suite including Access. Experience with ERP software also a plus. Experience utilizing lean philosophies, principles, and tools also desirable. Demonstrated success working in a fast paced engineer to order (ETO) environment is a differentiator.
