Tour Guides
Do you want to share your passion and knowledge of Washington D.C. and U.S. history with others?
Do you enjoy an active job that allows you to spend your time outside? If so, working as a Tour Guide may be just for you!
Bike and Roll DC and Smithsonian National Mall Tours provides informative, fun and engaging experiences of D.C.. We offering both bike and Segway tours of the National Mall area highlighting interesting history surrounding sites the iconic National Memorials as well as the Smithsonian Institute, U.S. Capitol, Pennsylvania Avenue, and the White House.
Tour guides are part school teacher, part entertainer, part traffic cop and part shepherd. We provide our guides with a detailed history of each site on our tours and allow you to impress guests with your knowledge, entertain them with your stories and charm them with your humor.
A successful Tour Guide will possess the following characteristics:
- Excellent customer service skills
- High level of comfort speaking in front of small groups
- Strong leadership skills
- Comfortable riding a bike [while leading a small group] and an ability to learn how to Segway
- A safety-first mentality
- Passionate about D.C. and American History
- An ability to work independently and on a team
- Genuine interest in working with tourists
Additional Qualities that are favorable include:
- Previous experience in a related field such as customer service, hospitality or tourism.
- Basic First-Aid training
- Education in History or Museum Studies
Prior Experience as a tour guide is NOT required. However, knowledge of Washington D.C. and/or American history is a big advantage. In our experience, someone who is personable and is interested in learning will be the most successful tour guide.
Guides are compensated hourly, plus tips.
