The Financial/Accounting Specialist provides specialized accounting-related services to the Texas Chapter of The Nature Conservancy
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Finance/Accounting Specialist provides specialized services in finance and accounting to the Texas Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Essential functions include processing donor revenue and other revenue sources including government and lease revenues using donor management software. Serves as a liaison between the Texas Chapter and the Worldwide Office to ensure accurate processing of income and transfers. Communicates with staff in various programs across the Conservancy. Implements processes and practices to improve effectiveness. Maintains, tracks, and researches data. Produces ad hoc reports and analyses to management as needed. Administers and maintains accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. Provides guidance, support and training based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures. May be responsible for additional administrative duties as assigned. The Finance/Accounting Specialist is a member of the Development team.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience.
- Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline and budget.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Duties may require non-routine analysis, research and follow-through.
- May act as a resource to others to solve problems and act in supervisor’s stead when instructed.
- Provide input through project teams for the improvement of existing programs.
- Refer difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor.
- Travel and work flexible hours as needed.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
- Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
- Experience using automated accounting systems.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- May require fluency in a specific foreign language(s) to support global operations.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- May require working knowledge of grants accounting.
- Experience with Razor’s Edge, CRM, or other donor management software and general ledger analysis
