Position Summary

The Director of the Early Learning Center reports to the Executive Director of Finance and Auxiliary Services. This position has responsibility for direction and leadership of the Early Learning Center, maintaining the highest standards in early childhood education services. The employee occupying this position will utilize management principles and skills to work with supervisors, leads, and employees for the purpose of delivering effective services in support of the College's mission and values. The Director possesses a combination of education, training, and experience in early childhood care & education management and has specialized knowledge in early education, family support services, adult education, leadership of diverse organizations, and operations management.

In this position there is a heavy emphasis on external and internal communications, engagement, training and support, and brand awareness. This role is responsible for serving as a thought partner to the Executive Director, managing a team of X people, and building internal and external relationships with the organization's constituencies when it comes to childcare and early education. This position requires knowledge of education, organizational change, systems-level and executive mindset, and demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work effectively and gracefully under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Position Salary Range: $93,880/year - $136,126/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $104,442/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

As a department of Bellevue College, our mission is to provide high quality, family centered, developmentally appropriate care & early education for young children and their families. The Early Learning Center encourages discovery, creativity, overall development, independence, self-regulation, problem solving, and exploration in a safe, respectful, yet stimulating, relationship based environment. Our program maintains a child-centered philosophy that accepts each child at his/her own developmental level and encourages him/her to learn through rich experiences. When planning the curriculum, teachers provide experiences that reflect families' interests, hobbies, cultures, and languages.

Essential Functions

Leadership and Management

• Plan, organize and lead the Early Learning Center (ELC) to support the College's academic programs and partnerships. These duties include but are not limited to budget management strategic planning, curriculum development, enrollment procedure and guidelines, record keeping, purchasing equipment, etc.

• Racial Equity Advocate: Recognizes, supports, and engages in dismantling institutional racism as a team leader.

• Development and monitoring of budgets and resource management

Program Development

Develop, implement and monitor:

• Annual and long-range service delivery goals and objectives,

• Administrative policies and classroom management systems,

• Work processes that facilitate an efficient, effective early learning program .

Enforce State Rules and Guidelines

• Ensure the ELC conforms to federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and licensing requirements as they pertain to early learning programs. This includes but not limited to training, reporting, safety and emergency duties,

Management of Classified staff

• Direct and evaluate the ELC department staff and their activities to ensure the delivery of quality services to the children, families, students, and community involved with the center. This includes recruitment, hiring, performance management, discipline, training, etc

Community Outreach

• Market and promote ELC services to students, Costco and community.

• Foster a sense of community and shared purpose via collaboration and cooperation with others inside and outside of Bellevue College

Building Relationships

• Design and conduct individual family orientations, family assistance, family problem-solving and conflict resolution

Collaborate

• Work effectively and maintain relationships with early childhood organizations outside of the College including Child Care Resources & Referral, Merit, PSESD, Bellevue School District, King County Public Health, Department of Child, Youth & Families, Early Achievers, Head Start, OSPI, USDA food program, WCCCC, Kindering Center, and WAEYC.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field; Relevant years of experience can be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

• Two (2) years of teaching experience AND at least six months of experience in administration or management at a full day early childhood center.

• Successful completion of a Washington State DEL criminal background check.

• Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook

• Have, or obtain within 90 days of hiring, current infant/child CPR, basic first aid, and blood borne pathogen training and proof of negative TB skin test and MMR immunity. If applicable providing documentation, it must be signed within the last twelve months by a licensed health care professional of tuberculosis (TB) testing or treatment.

• Effective customer service , problem solving and organizational skills

• Demonstrated ability to relate and communicate effectively with children, families, students, community members and staff of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or relevant training in a related field that includes a minimum of 47 credits in ECE or in school-age education.

• Five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role and teaching in a full-day campus-based early childhood program.

• Experience teaching adults at a college level.

• Experience in design and delivery of services/programs serving young children and their families OR experience working in a Head Start program.

• Experience successfully managing and planning a large self-support budget.

• Experience mentoring and guiding students who are pursing Early Childhood Education (ECE) degrees.

• Experience soliciting and managing grants in support of early learning initiatives.

• Department of Children, Youth, & Families (DCYF) certificates & orientation.

• Experience managing diverse teams and demonstrated cultural proficiency, articulating and applying historical context of racism and understands the current reality of students and communities of color in order to support racial equity.
