The role:

Do you want to use your skills to make a difference? Join our hardworking Condon maintenance crew as a highway maintenance specialist to help keep Oregon’s roads and travelers safe! As part of our team, you will operate equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures. You will also help with emergency cleanup and traffic control after incidents, storms, spills and more! Apply today!

This is a seasonal position that is expected to last approximately 6 months from date of hire. Seasonal positions are regular status, benefits eligible positions, which occur, terminate and recur periodically or regularly.

A day in the life:

• Operate snowplows to remove snow and ice from roadways.
• Apply sand, salt and chemical deicers to road surfaces.
• Patrol the road system to identify and correct adverse conditions for travelers.
• Respond to incidents and other emergencies and set up traffic control.
• Maintain, repair or replace metal guardrail, concrete barriers, fences or milepost markers.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Perform building maintenance including sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, painting and light carpentry.
• Maintain wooded areas including pruning, thinning and trimming trees, shrubs and groundcover.
• Exposure to noise, extreme heights, adverse weather, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected.
• Must be able to move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.
• May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum qualifications:
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work;

OR

Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Special qualifications:
• This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 406 East Frazer St., Condon, OR 97823 for emergency call-outs.
• CDL-B or CDL-A Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license B or A (CDL-B or CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
