Role and Responsibilities

SEMCOG is seeking an experienced Accountant III to join our Finance team. Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Accountant III will perform a wide variety of accounting duties in the preparation, maintenance, and review of financial records. Provides technical guidance to Accountant levels I or II by leading processes of accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable to aid in the closure of the monthly cycle. Reconciles and closes the month-end cycle, allocates and reconciles pooled costs to direct projects, and prepares grant billing for submission. Provides accounting support for both SEMCOG and partner organization Metropolitan Affairs Coalition.

The successful candidate will have well-developed project accounting, organization, and time management skills, be detailed, self-motivated, capable of working on multiple tasks with competing deadlines, maintain confidentiality of employee and organization information, and work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of staff. Experience and Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

· Five (5) to seven (7) years of government, non-profit, or council of governments accounting experience.

· Knowledge of basic Accounting and Bookkeeping principles and practices, payroll tax laws, federal grant requirements, and auditing standards. Strong quantitative skills and capacity to prepare, interpret, and analyze complex data.

· Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment, including applicable software (Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

· Effective written and verbal skills, and ability to understand and carry out verbal and written directions.

Total Compensation Estimate = $130,060*
