Description

The International Services Department at The University of Alabama in Huntsville seeks a dynamic, organized professional to assist with the study abroad operations and advance the mission and vision of the institution’s study abroad component through collaboration with campus departments, faculty program leaders, and international partners to provide academically sound, relevant, and safe study abroad programs and exceptional student services.
 
Duties/Responsibilities
• Assist in the day-to-day operations of study abroad as it relates to student advising, pre-departure and returnee procedures, campus reporting, and academic integration
• Interpret and ensure adherence to UAH, UA System, state and national policies and regulations as related to study abroad programs
• Maintain knowledge of UAH travel policies, academic registration and records protocols, financial aid and admission policies, as well as the professional standards for study abroad from NAFSA and the Association of International Educations and the Forum on Education Abroad Standards of Good Practice
• Collaborate with a myriad of university offices, such as financial aid, registrar, student affairs, student health, and student counseling, to ensure study abroad protocols comply with university policies and procedures
• Stay abreast of current campus and national policies relating to study abroad and funding, military and veterans’ affairs, mental health, transcripts, and other policies that may affect study abroad operations at UAH
• Participate in the training and direction on a wide range of academic, cultural, and logistical matters inherent within any study abroad program • Actively engage with UAH units across campus, and makes recommendations to improve programs, processes, policies, and the student experience
• Train student users, process program applications, and troubleshoot the system as needed as the administrator for Terra Dotta, the UAH study abroad application database system.
• Gather data and compile various reports regarding the study abroad program
• Distribute and compile student and faculty evaluations upon returning from their study abroad experiences as well as review and recommend improvements/changes based on the evaluations
• Troubleshoot study abroad withdrawals and will work to reduce attrition of program applicants
• Assist with the planning and implementation of broad outreach and recruitment initiatives for the UAH study abroad program
facilitates campus recruiting efforts directed toward UAH students, both undergraduate or graduate, including promotion to those in underrepresented/non-traditional student groups
• Schedule speaking engagements with individual classes, various on-campus events and on-campus international education activities
meets with UAH students who are interested in study abroad as well as with prospective students who are considering attending UAH
• Attend meetings about academic offerings, housing, and student life in order to improve pre-departure preparation of outgoing UAH students and to share best practices
• Serve as the liaison between UAH and third-party, affiliate study abroad program providers, educating these providers of UAH policies regarding study abroad and the recruitment of students for study abroad purposes
• Support incoming exchange students applying to UAH as well as conducts exchange student pre-departure orientations regarding eligibility, the application procedure, transfer of credit, financial aid, and housing, etc
• Perform other duties related to international services as assigned
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree, 1-5 years of verifiable work experience, or a combination of education and years of experience
• U.S. citizen or U.S permanent resident
• Strong attention to detail and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents
Desired Qualifications
• Master's degree in an area related to international education
• Experience working with students in higher education; living, working, or studying overseas
• 3-5 years of experience working in international education, particularly in study abroad programs, including exchanges, faculty-led and provider programs, student advising, and other closely related experience
• Experience with Banner student information system and Terra Dotta software
 
Salary: 44,000 - 47,000
