The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) at the University of Illinois is a world leader in research, teaching, and public engagement focusing on health and wellness across the lifespan. AHS’ research, teaching, and service programs seek to improve the quality of life of people of all ages and cultures, promote the development of healthy communities, and help people with disabilities live full and independent lives. AHS has nationally recognized units in their fields and is home to the Departments of Kinesiology and Community Health; Recreation, Sport and Tourism; and Speech and Hearing Science. One of the college’s top priorities is to provide strong academic advising services to its undergraduate students. AHS is looking for a dynamic individual to provide academic advising for undergraduate students enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences major and for undergraduate students who express an interest in enrolling in the program.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provide one-on-one advising and career counseling to undergraduate students in the major and monitor progress toward degree completion. Collaborate with College of Applied Health Sciences student programs such as AHS Student Council, I-LEAP and the James Scholar Honors program to support positive student outcomes.

 

Co-teach the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences orientation course(s) for new students.

 

Welcome and advise new first-year and transfer students during new student registration programs in the summer and fall, including assisting with course selection and registration.

 

Assist with the promotion of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences major and provide support for student communication including print and electronic materials; coordinate, support and evaluate students throughout the intercollegiate transfer process.

 

Assist with college-wide and departmental student events and processing; serve on campus, college, and departmental committees; perform other related duties that further the mission of the college.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required:

 

Master’s degree in a health-related field, counseling, education, or higher education administration.

 

At least one year of experience with academic advising, career counseling, or student support services.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Required: 

Ability to work effectively across academic disciplines and as part of an advising team.

Creativity and commitment to program initiatives.

 

            Preferred:

Experience working with students in a health-related field or academic setting.

An understanding of the needs and concerns of college students and a passion for working with them.

Demonstrated strengths include experience in public speaking, strong writing ability, and organizational skills.

Significant intercultural skills and experience working with diverse populations.

Salary and Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The salary range for this position is $52,000.00 to $60,000.00. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
