SUMMARY

 

UD is currently seeking an Accountant III who will apply accounting principles and procedures to ensure the integrity of the University of Dallas financial data by analyzing transactions, reconciling accounts, funds, and grants and then proposing adjustments as necessary. This position will also analyze and interpret financial data and procedures to prepare financial information and reports. This position reports to the Assistant Controller.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsible for daily cash accounting. This responsibility includes pulling a list of all transactions from the bank for the prior day. This list is analyzed to ensure that all transactions are posted to the GL timely and properly. Prepare a journal entry for all transactions that are not recorded by a system (i.e., CashNet) or by another staff member.
  • Serve as back up for Positive Pay decisions made daily.
  • Monitor the Accounting@udallas.edu email box including resolution of items.
  • Export gift activity from Development’s software, ensuring that all items have been credited to the University’s bank account. Ensure that the gifts processed are appropriately classified with respect to donor’s intent.
  • Work with the Assistant Controller to complete reconciliations of various Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Assist with Month-end/Quarter-end/Year-end General ledger close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of GL accounts. Examples include: Postage and Metered Mail, Freedom Pay, Bulk Mail, Interdepartmental charges, Prepaid Insurance, Prepaid monthly amortizations, Aramark billings, Follett Billings, Solar Soccer, Search for Assets and Capital entries, etc.
  • Assist with various components of the annual audit related to the areas of responsibility.
  • Assist the Assistant Controller with completion of the supporting schedules for the preparation of the 990, 990T and 1042 tax returns and related state solicitation filings.

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting.
  • Five (5) years of experience working as a staff accountant, preferably in an accounting firm or comparable industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience in higher education/not-for-profit fund accounting principles and practices.
