ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire an Accounts Payable Representative, to join our Finance Department.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Accounts Payable Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Accounts Payable area of TMWA’s Finance Department. This role involves handling a range of skilled and unskilled tasks to maintain an orderly workflow. This role will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and verifying the consistency, completeness, and accuracy of items entered into the accounts payable system. This includes validating against purchase orders and understanding the relationship between accounts payable and purchasing functions.
  • Researching and resolving discrepancies or errors in invoices.
  • Processing invoices and expense reports for payment within the accounts payable system in a timely manner.
  • Conducting weekly accounts payable check runs, preparing check register reports, and issuing checks in coordination with the bank.
  • Interpreting vendor W-9 information and managing 1099 records.
  • Working independently on accounting and data entry tasks as trained.
  • Effectively and efficiently resolving customer and vendor inquiries.
  • Providing guidance on accounts payable policies to internal and external customers.
  • Handling additional clerical tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:

Required Experience: 3 to 5 year’s experience handling accounts payable transactions, accounts receivable transactions, cash transactions, or general bookkeeping entries in a financial software program.   The position may be required by Company to pass written and/or proficiency tests covering any of the following qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Typing speed of 40 wpm with accuracy.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Knowledge of routine accounts payable operations, including 1099 and W-9 procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating office machines and personal computers.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and vendors, both orally and in writing.

Additional Qualifications: Candidates may be required to pass written and/or proficiency tests covering:

  • Typing speed and accuracy.
  • General math skills.
  • Accounts payable procedures.
  • Operation of office machines and PCs.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.
