Job Type Full-time

Description

The Department of Physics at the University of Dallas invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position as an assistant professor of physics in the Constantin College to begin in August 2025.  We are open to a broad variety of specializations in physics, with a preference towards experimentalists who show promise for an active research program involving undergraduate students.

The Physics Department graduates approximately 8 majors per year.  Approximately 90% of students in the department participate in undergraduate research either with faculty of the Department or through REU programs.  A senior thesis based on research experience and a public presentation at a Texas APS meeting or similar conference is required for the B.S. in Physics.  Faculty research areas include nuclear physics, astrophysics, cosmology, and materials science.  We are looking for a colleague to enhance or extend experimental research areas.

The College actively supports new faculty with mentoring and professional development opportunities through the Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as research through startup funds and internal grants of the Donald A. Cowan Institute for Physics.  Besides having well-equipped introductory and advanced laboratories, the Department has a nuclear physics laboratory supported by local industries and on-campus and remote observatories with 16-inch telescopes.  The university is situated on the outskirts of Dallas, providing easy access to the amenities of a large city as well as a diverse environment of a smaller community.

The applicant should demonstrate a firm commitment to undergraduate education and support the Mission Statement of the University.   The incumbent will teach the standard load (3-3).  Teaching assignments span the undergraduate physics curriculum, involving introductory and advanced courses for majors, associated lab courses, and courses for non-majors.  Candidates will also be expected to engage in sustained, robust scholarly research and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, which include academic advising, mentoring research students, and service on committees.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field in hand by the start date.

Start date is August 2025.
