ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire a Communication Student Employee, to join our Communications Team.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The incumbent works within the TMWA Communications Team performing a variety of communication related tasks. The incumbent is expected to work independently and at a paraprofessional level for TMWA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a variety of paraprofessional/technical duties in support of TMWA’s Communication team.
  • Assist in developing engaging and informative content for both internal and external communications channels; including print materials, TMWA’s websites, newsletters, social media platforms, and TMWA’s intranet. These duties will require writing, creating graphics, designing documents, taking photos and shooting simple videos.
  • Assist in managing and monitoring social media accounts, including scheduling posts, responding to comments and messages, and tracking engagement metrics.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of social media campaigns and digital marketing initiatives, including promotions, events, and public service announcements.
  • Assist in development and distribution of employee communications such as e-newsletters and intranet content.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation and execution of public events such as: informational workshops, required public meetings, tours and educational sessions.
  • Assist in analyzing social media and digital media performance using tools like Google Analytics and social media insights. Prepare reports on key metrics and suggest improvements based on data.
  • Expand and update TMWA’s photo and video catalog, this will include capturing new photography and managing TMWA’s media archive.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, best practices, and competitor activities to inform social media strategies and content development.
  • Work closely with the Communications team to ensure alignment of digital media efforts with overall communication goals and strategies.
  • Administrative Tasks: Provide general administrative support as needed, including organizing files, preparing presentations, and coordinating with other departments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:

Experience: None required
Education & Training: Attainment of a high school diploma or equivalent

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Nevada (or California – depending on state of residency) Driver License at time of hire and continuing thereafter and ability to maintain insurability under TMWA’s vehicle insurance policy.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation during hire and periodically thereafter during employment.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position and employment is contingent upon the results of drug and/or alcohol testing which includes screening for marijuana. The presence of marijuana or other screened for substances on any employment related substance test may result in a refusal to hire or termination of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing principles.
  • Knowledge of and ability to take illustrative photos and video.
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of technology, computers, and programs such as but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and basic video editing and design software, and analytics platforms.
  • Microsoft Windows operating system and ability to use standard office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, teams, etc.)

Skill/Ability to:
