The Challenge
We're looking for an entry-level Engineering Technician to join our Rockingham County Construction Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
    • Perform technical engineering work while supporting engineers and other professionals in construction inspections, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance.
    • Lead compliance inspections for contract documents, standards, and specifications, materials testing, plan reviews, engineering-related data analysis, and construction surveying/layouts.
    • Compose project operations diaries, complete material reports, perform construction calculations, document pay records, and perform data entry on computers/iPads.
    • Assist with office engineering and assist our Resident Engineer.
What You Bring
    • Experience conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards/codes, and specifications.
    • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
    • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
    • Computer skills using laptops/desktops, iPads, and software.
    • Experience performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
    • General knowledge of surveying and methods, equipment, and materials used in highway construction.
    • General knowledge of math functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contact provisions, specifications and inspection procedures.
    • Ability to take notes.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
