Envision a future powered by carbon-free energy. The way we generate, transmit, and use electricity is changing rapidly, and ALLETE is growing to support our commitment to 100% carbon free energy. ALLETE is an investor-owned energy company focused on building a sustainable energy future that is headquartered on Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota – with operations throughout the United States. ALLETE's largest business is Minnesota Power, an electric energy provider that serves about 150,000 customers, more than a dozen municipalities, and some of the nation's largest industrial customers. Other ALLETE businesses include Wisconsin-based Superior Water, Light & Power; ALLETE Clean Energy based in Duluth, Minnesota; BNI Energy in Bismarck, North Dakota; New Energy Equity headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland; and ALLETE Renewable Resources.

Minnesota Power is seeking two (2) Enterprise Project Managers to join our Engineering Services department to successfully execute enterprise project initiatives. These roles will provide project management and team leadership for complex, large-scale enterprise capital projects including high voltage transmission lines, HVDC systems, solar and wind energy projects, and energy storage initiatives, all aimed at supporting Minnesota Power’s EnergyForward drive to achieve 100% carbon-free energy. When you join our Engineering Services team as an Enterprise Project Manager, you will take the lead on implementing robust project controls to ensure adherence to safety standards, timelines, budgets, sourcing requirements, environmental regulations, sustainability targets, and resource management goals. Additionally, you will monitor project quality and ensure all deliverables meet the required standards.

ALLETE offers a flexible, friendly work environment, expansive opportunities to grow and develop in your career, and a culture that drives excellence through our shared values of integrity, safety, people, and planet. We offer choice in the things that matter to you: your money, your health, your time, and your career. The compensation package includes a competitive, market-based salary, a robust retirement plan, medical and dental benefits, company supported continuing education, generous time off, professional development opportunities, an incentive plan, and other perks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Construct a comprehensive project schedule, budget, risk register, and execution plan, ensuring the project scope is consistent with Minnesota Power's strategic vision.
  • Identify and obtain all required permits and land agreements before construction begins to prevent any delays during the construction phase.
  • Develop a procurement strategy for materials and equipment, emphasizing the early acquisition of critical long-lead items to reduce risks.
  • Lead the negotiation of key contracts for equipment, materials, and services using a variety of contracting methods and strategies.
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members and contractors.
  • Manage resources in areas including engineering, financial, safety, environmental, construction, and regulatory compliance.
  • Form a dedicated project team with both internal and external resources, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Engage collaboratively with construction managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to preemptively tackle issues, ensuring the project is completed safely and within defined constraints.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with all project stakeholders including executive sponsors, regulatory and political officials, construction managers, contractors, suppliers, and the project team.
  • Develop and nurture positive relationships with the local community, partnering with local and state authorities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, industrial technology, business administration, management, or closely-related field is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, advanced professional degree (MBA), and/or certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or other relevant Project Management Institute (PMI) certification program is strongly preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in engineering and operations with utility experience is strongly preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • These positions may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. These positions will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as travel is required.
  • Must exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for fostering and maintaining positive relationships inside and outside the company.
  • These positions may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

The expected annual compensation range for these positions is $114,000 – $142,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
