Salary Range:$26.00 To 26.00 Hourly

1st Shift - 5:00am to 1:30pm

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the maintenance of the organization’s buildings and grounds including the mechanical, welding, construction, plumbing and minor electrical.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all facilities and construction activities in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs work that includes but is not limited to putting up drywall, welding, installing racks and installing air lines.
  • May perform interdepartmental and interoffice moves.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals with minimal supervision.
  • Works under general supervision on duties and tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity.
  • May periodically assist in orienting and training lower level employees.
  • May perform other special projects as assigned by the building and construction supervisor.
  • Uses a 2-way radio, pallet jack, tape measure, forklift, boom lift, various power and hand tools, such as drills, saws, wrenches, screw drivers, etc.
  • Works well within a team-working environment.
  • Assist on facilities projects as directed by a lead.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs.
  • Fabricates and welds for maintenance projects and needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Works overtime as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on building maintenance, construction, welding and plumbing experience.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
  • Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Able to drive a forklift and boomlift.
  • Must pass forklift driving test and Virco’s driver background check.

 

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift up to 50 pounds from waist to shoulder level.  Pushes and/or pulls up to 100 pounds using some type of moving equipment.  Routinely bends and stoops.  Frequently walks throughout the 8 to 10 hours of the shift.   Able to withstand 8 to 10 hours standing on a concrete surface.  Must be able to adjust to normal plant environmental conditions (above moderate heat and cold) and to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
