Laydon Industries, LLC. is a family owned and operated excavating & paving company since 1944 providing Underground Construction and Utility Support Services throughout the state of Connecticut. Layon is excited to introduce its newest addition of a Gas Operations Division. We are looking for qualified, highly skilled individuals to be part of this team.

We are currently hiring for Laborers, Gas Mechanic A, Utility Truck Drivers, and Equipment Operators.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs a combination of the following:

  • Under direct/limited supervision, excavates, uses laser transit, shovels stone, acts as a spotter for our excavator. Performs duties safely.
  • Fabricates and joins various types and sizes of gas piping/fittings including gas mains, sense, and vent lines. May also perform pipe grinding, beveling and assist the welder. Installs and maintains pipe handling in accordance with construction and maintenance standards. Includes the operation of various equipment such as boring equipment, hydraulic tools, backhoe ,stopping and tapping equipment, and other machines used in distribution construction.
  • Performs locating of underground natural gas systems.
  • Works safely, looks out for all members of the crew.
  • May provide leadership and OJT training to new or team members with less experience.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Must Haves:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A valid CT Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. CDL Class A or B is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing the duties and responsibilities of this position; or minimum of 3-4 years of natural gas operations experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Must be able to proficiently understand basic map reading and be able to operate a computer, communication devices, power tools, and equipment appropriate to the position/assignment.
  • Must possess sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions, and clearly express ideas verbally and in writing.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in adverse conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for work assigned.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs and the like using feet, legs, hands and arms.
  • Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Must be physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor.

As safety sensitive gas worker, a pre-employment drug screening, as well as routine drug and alcohol testing will be conducted.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
