Description
The Field Scanning / GIS Technician will provide expert level operations support for the Central UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) and Inspections Department. This role will perform duties in support of various field scanning projects, troubleshoot technology issues as well as ground scanning, data collection, program deliverables related to field work and a variety of other tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Continually improve understanding of current scanning data gathering, carry out plans in conjunction with other team members to use field scanning technology in operations and effectively communicate methods to co-workers.
- Expertly perform various data collections and programs. Work alongside field crews to further advance departmental objectives.
- Use in-house tools and other processes to deliver accurate and complete end product information from remotely sensed data using 360 LiDAR and imagery scanning devices in a reality capture mission at Substations, power plants and other facilities as needed.
- Adhere to SOPs (standard operating procedures), training documentation and other processes.
- Perform and carry out processes to meet deadlines and due date requirements for scanning activities and data delivery schedules. Ensure integrity of data compiled by department staff and other Ameren co-workers.
- Be familiar with the implementation of innovative or surveying technology in the field of inspections.
- Represent Ameren and the department in various unsupervised duties performed throughout the territory, including substation scanning and other fieldwork activities.
- Be aware of and implement improvements to human performance and implement improvement plans to eliminate failure modes
- Keep up to date with the latest federal/state and local regulations surrounding all department operations
- Work in the field, unsupervised (outside and/or offsite) more than 95% of the time.
- Expect travel of more than 75%, including overnight stays within Ameren's territory to complete field tasks.
Qualifications
- Minimum Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Design/Surveying, GIS, Robotics, Technology, or a related field required.
- 1 or more years of relevant experience in technology related field preferred.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform driving tasks safely and without incident.
- Clean criminal record to acquire NERC clearance (Provided by Company).
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Broad understanding of computer and IT concepts preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and technical components preferred.
- Proven analytical skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions with ambiguous information.
- High level of organizational skills.
- Be a creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills - able to work effectively as a team and with various stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication skills, including presentation, written and verbal.
- High-level understanding of technology and Information Technology practices.
Additional Information
- This position requires the ability to lift up to 55 Lbs. and sit/stand for long periods in all weather conditions.
- Subject to 24X7X365 emergency call.
- Regular overnight stays required.
- Successful applicant will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimburse mileage for travel from home office to sites.
