JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for operating a truck in the maintenance of City cart paths, storm water system, and other infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs daily check of tires and fluid levels on vehicles and equipment; performs minor repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Installs and repairs storm pipes; repairs potholes, trenches, and curbs; digs trenches for the installation of pipes; and cleans debris and trash out of storm sewers, catch basins, and drains.
- As needed, assists in masonry work, such as building headwalls, retaining walls, and catch basins. Grades; prepares forms, pours and finishes concrete in the installation of curbs and handicap access ramps.
- As needed, cuts and removes trees; trims shrubbery; removes brush; and sweeps streets.
- Pours and patches asphalt.
- Cleans ditches.
- Cuts grass on City right-of-way.
- Pours concrete.
- Operates a variety of equipment, including a street sweeper and road grader.
- Operates a truck to transport dirt and other materials to work sites.
- Loads and secures equipment
- Installs cones and traffic control devices; flags traffic as needed.
- Reports safety hazards or other maintenance problems to Crew Leader or Supervisor.
- Must attend specialized training, including safety training, as required by management
- Responds to after-hours and weather-related emergencies
- Performs related duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques for cart paths and storm water systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles
- Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations
- Skill in operating assigned trucks and equipment
- Skill in establishing safe work zones
- Skill in the maintenance and repair of a variety of tools and equipment
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include City and departmental policies and procedures, traffic laws, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related truck driving duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to operate trucks in support of the construction and maintenance of City cart paths and infrastructure. Successful performance helps ensure safe and serviceable infrastructure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects. The employee must use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position may have functional supervision over assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a State of Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Georgia Department of Transportation Flagging Certificate.
