Position Summary
The Vice President of Institutional Advancement (VPIA) is Bellevue College's primary strategic liaison to the community. Reporting to the President, the position is responsible for the College's fundraising, marketing, communications, website content, and radio station. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the VPIA plays an integral role in strategic and operational administration. The VPIA advises the President, Board of Trustees, and other senior leaders on all development, marketing, and communications matters. The VPIA serves as senior spokesperson for the College and coordinates crisis communications.
Responsibilities include providing oversight and guidance to the BC Foundation and its fundraising, special events, and alumni programs. The VPIA provides oversight and guidance to the marketing and communications unit, which includes marketing, communications, public and media relations, social media, and creative design services. The VPIA also provides oversight and guidance to the college's radio station and acts as an advocate for the station's editorial independence and free speech protections. The VPIA provides oversight and guidance to web governance and management of web content. The VPIA provides leadership for and supervision of full-time, permanent, and temporary staff. Functioning as the lead external relations officer for the College, this executive may be responsible for a personal portfolio.
The VPIA works collaboratively with leadership across the institution to ensure alignment with and creative approaches to key academic and college priorities, initiatives, and opportunities.
This is an interim position and expected to end on 06/30/2025.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Position Salary Range: $143,514/year - $215,271/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $180,000/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department
The Institutional Advancement (IA) Division of Bellevue College works across the full academic enterprise to solidify a multi-faceted culture of brand awareness, philanthropy, and internal and external engagement. IA supports the College's mission by increasing awareness of, advocacy for, engagement in, and giving to Bellevue College. As part of the IA division, the Marketing & Communications department is responsible for stewarding the BC brand and driving the college's marketing strategy to increase awareness, support enrollment, and drive community engagement.
Essential Functions
Leadership and Strategic Management
• Leads the Office of Institutional Advancement and strengthens relationships with external and internal constituencies.
• Provides strategic counsel and leadership to the Board of Trustees at the direction of the BC President.
Operations Leadership
• Provides oversight and guidance to department leadership in the BC Foundation, Marketing & Communications, Web content and governance, and KBCS (the College's community public radio station).
• Develops and executes a comprehensive strategic plan for the division of Institutional Advancement that complements the needs of the College.
• In coordination with the Executive Director of the Foundation, develops and executes a yearly operational plan to meet financial goals of the College's strategic plan that includes private sector giving, an assessment of return on investment, limitation of risk to the College, and strategies to fund the plan.
• Provides oversight to the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to market the College and enhance its image and relationships with various external and internal audiences within the community, helping meet enrollment targets and encouraging broad-based support throughout the region.
• Provides oversight to the development and execution of ongoing college communication efforts to create and sustain a positive public image for the College.
• Serves as the senior spokesperson for the College. Co-leads crisis communications in coordination with Public Safety and Administrative Services.
• Provides oversight of KBCS to ensure adequate funding and collaboration with Academic and Student Affairs. Ensures that financial reporting and operational plans are in compliance with federal agencies and regulatory concerns (e.g., FCC, CPB, etc.).
• Ensures that all Institutional Advancement activities operate within budget, institutional regulatory policy, professional standards, and ethical practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• A Bachelor's degree. Relevant experience in philanthropy, communications, marketing, public administration, educational leadership, or a related field may be substituted for the education requirement.
• Demonstrated expertise in institutional advancement combined with the ability to build strong teams and foster engagement.
• Experience in complex special events and institution-wide celebrations, philanthropy, stewardship, prospect research and communication, customized programs, and related business activities.
• Demonstrated leadership/management skills including supervision, budgeting, policy development, financial management, strategic planning, and coordination skills essential for creating a dynamic institutional advancement team.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to advancing the mission, goals, and objectives of an institution.
• Demonstrated ability to increase the breadth and scope of donor and/or constituency bases.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in marketing and communications, including crisis communication.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships with a broad range of diverse groups such as students, faculty, private sector organizations, business and industries, governmental officials as well as a sensitivity and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrate expertise in all forms of media relations, including an understating of institutional branding, digital media and platforms, social media, and the impact of technology on fundraising and alumni activities.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
