Title: Security Specialist II

Location: Bronzeville, Chicago IL

Schedule: Saturday to Wednesday (4:00pm-12:30am) or Tuesday to Saturday (12:00am–8:30am)

Essential Functions:

  • Provides security to assure the safety and well-being of their YRS Site’s participants/staff during their work shift.
  • Completes a minimum of 2 Interior and Exterior Security Perimeter Checks at their assigned YRS Site per shift.  Each of these Interior and Exterior Security Perimeter Checks will include a thorough review of all vehicles to ensure they are locked and have not been tampered with in any way since the time of the last Perimeter Check.
  • Remains current with any/all SmarterU and ADP LMS Online Training and with Dual In – Person/Online trainings, to include Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training Annually and CPR/First Aid Training Biennially.
  • Assists their YRS Directors/PMs with updating their YRS Site’s Emergency Plans as well as assisting with both the running of Emergency Drills and with the scanning in of their Emergency Drills as part of their CARF Quality Review, if they are requested to do so.
  • Completes Daily Staff Communications (DSCs), which will list at least 1 activity they complete during each hour of every workday.  DSCs will either be sent daily using photographs or they can be completed on a weekly basis where they scan in the DSCs and then email them directly to HHCS Manager of Physical Security and Incident Response.
  • Always carries a charged walkie – talkie on their person during their work shift.
  • Assists in ensuring the interior of the involved YRS Site is safe/secure for all participants/staff during a protest, regardless of whether the protest occurs at their assigned YRS Site.
  • Completes other safety and security related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in security or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • A valid driver's license is encouraged, but not required.
  • A Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Responsibility (IDFPR)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent communication skills.  Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information processing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self – motivation, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems, and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

Work Arrangement:

This role is an “in person” position only.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Each program site operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year.  To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regard to scheduling and work location.
  • Program sites are located on the North and South sides of Chicago.  SS IIs may be required to report to any of our YRS Sites on a temporary or permanent basis.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the SS II is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The SS II is regularly required to sit, stand and walk.
  • The SS II must be able to stoop, kneel, and/or crawl.
  • The SS II is regularly required to use hands to key, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The SS II must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The SS II must have unrestricted ability to utilize the CPI techniques with participants should the need arise.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
