The Challenge
We are hiring a senior accountant to join our Multi-Modal Transportation team.
In this role, you will:

- Work as a key member of the Multi-Modal Transportation accounting team that provides functional financial and accounting support for the 4 modal divisions. The team provides centralized financial reporting and forecasting resources to assist in the completion of short- and long-term budgetary planning, spend plan forecasting, programmatic compliance, and special initiatives support.
- Serve as our expert on financial analysis, standardized reporting, and documentation of standard operating procedures and modal guidance for Multi-Modal Transportation.
- Help division directors and our Deputy Secretary make informed programmatic decisions and track financial performance.
- Ensure complete accuracy and attention to detail, as the consequence of errors is significant and could result in improper payments of Federal/State funds, delayed payments, misleading performance reports used in significant management decisions concerning project funding commitments and program policy decisions.
What You Bring

- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles/practices, and current accounting/financial management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to present analysis results to program administrators and provide technical guidance.
- Computer skills using ERP systems (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Excel to generate custom reporting documents on any financial information relevant to the NCDOT's operations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, State, Local, and Federal officials, and the public.
Education & Experience

- Bachelors degree in accounting, or a Bachelors degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or related discipline, and 18 semester hours of accounting, and
- 5+ years of accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive/analytical accounting/financial statements and reports; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
