Position Overview:  

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our finance team. This role will be key in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting the preparation of financial statements, and assisting with various accounting functions. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing general ledger entries, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior accounting staff and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure financial compliance and efficiency. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform essential accounting functions such as entering debits and credits in the accounting system to record the organization’s financial transactions.
  • Responsible for monthly closing procedures such as preparing and entering monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, and preparing financial statements/ reporting package.
  • Complete accounts receivable activities such as generating client invoices, depositing checks, paying invoicing in the accounting system upon receipt of payments, and debiting funds via ACH from client bank accounts for payroll.
  • Facilitate accounts payable activities such as coding expenses correctly in the accounting system per budgetary guidance, ensuring vendor and contractor invoices are paid timely, processing ACH and wire transactions, and filing invoices with appropriate back-up.
  • Prepare and export bi-weekly payroll journal entries from ADP into QBO the accounting system, as well as reconcile payroll entries with quarterly 941 report.
  • Prepare required documentation and deliverables for organization’s annual audit as assigned by Director of Finance for the preliminary/planning, internal control/compliance and main audit, as well as preparations for the annual 990 and MA PC filing.
  • Assist Director of Finance with maintaining adequate internal accounting controls, making recommendations for changes when necessary.
  • Assist in the Yearly Budget and Mid-Year forecast process.
  • Assist in Cash management and Banking duties (Transfers, Signatory, etc).
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Director of Finance to meet Finance and Administration’s needs, goals, and objectives.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must pass a Federal Background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other relevant area.
  • 5 years of general accounting experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must read, write, speak and understand English.

    Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior experience with accounting systems, including QuickBooks.
  • CPA designation.
  • Sensitivity and patience to work with individuals with disabilities.
  • Prior experience payroll processing and the ADP Workforce Now platform
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other relevant area.
