IES is searching for Terminal Operator Trainees to join our team! Under the general supervision of the Head Operator, this position works in the Operations Group and has a critical role in the success of the bulk terminal operation. This job position holds many responsibilities and wide array of work demands. To achieve operational excellence, financial discipline and individual accountability, job expectations are clearly identified. The Operator trainee position will assist in support of workforce safety, job specific technical development of other Operators, strict product quality, and equipment reliability.

Desired competencies include proven ability to follow IES workplace policies, guidelines, and terminal instructions. Ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:
1.Performing Daily Terminal work Tasks/Activities
•Perform field verification rounds of assigned operating area within the first 1 hour of start of shift.
•Review and ensures all information for today, jobs for today, E-mail, audible directives, and routine duties for the shift are completed.
•Thoroughly document all work task in shift turnover document.
•Reel gage all transfer / delivery tanks prior to starting and after securing transfers.
•Sample all product tanks as required by formal checklist, jobs for today, information for today, E-mail, Cargo Orders, Pumping Orders, defense logistics agency requirements and other routine duties or special audible request.
•As needed perform minor equipment maintenance work activities e.g., setting diaphragm pumps, setting hoses, light bulb changes, filter vessel element change outs, equipment lube oil changes etc.
•Accountable for maintaining general housekeeping of crew assigned work areas.
•Inventory, order and maintain terminal materials and supplies. i.e., personal protective equipment, consumables, filters, sample containers, fire, and safety equipment etc.
•Accountable for the proper upkeep and minor maintenance for assigned work vehicle.
•Accountable for the general housekeeping of the field control room.
•Review and utilize all necessary work task procedures, job aids, checklist for job task occurring on their shifts.
•Review and consult terminal head operator before performing any new or abnormal procedures/transfer line ups job task.
•Ensure all applicable procedures, checklist, routine duties are completed and have been properly signed off for their respected work shift. Any exceptions to be communicated to Head Operator.

2.Communication Tasks/Activities
•Clear understanding of all environmental policies, safe work practice, new equipment, new procedures, and unusual circumstances.
•Communicate all significant safety risk to Head Operator or supervisor to prevent incidents/injuries.

3.Process Equipment Maintenance & Repairs
•Thorough review of all associated risks of all maintenance activities. Complete and through understanding of all Maintenance activities in their assigned work area.
•Clear and concise job hazard analysis discussion with maintenance/contractors and that job is released in the field at work site.
•Ensure proper equipment isolation and lock out/tag out before releasing process equipment to Maintenance or Contractors, in accordance with SFH policies and procedures.
•Ensures all Safe Work Practices are followed and executed properly.
•Verifies that all equipment has been properly depressured and drain down prior to release for maintenance.
•When returning to work (off) verify all lock out/tag out that have taken place during your days away from work. Examples: PRD’s valve position, car sealed, alternate thermal relief set up.
•Ensure operational readiness review has been completed for all applicable maintenance work.
•Monitor maintenance repair progress: Observe all job activity sites being performed on shift and assess job site for safety hazards and specific work scope.
•Ensures that all jobs are completed per job scope & specifications before approving work completion.
•Initiate service request for all faulty equipment issues requiring Maintenance or Contractor support. Attached are required documentation, i.e., blind list, lock out/tag out diagram, H-831 vacuum truck request form, photos etc.
•Be able to develop equipment and isolation plans, develop a LOTO plan, learn to read P&IDs.
•Use computer software to initiate service requests.

4.Technical/Reliability Activities
•Review all checklists and procedures for accuracy to reflect current terminal operating posture.
•Monitor equipment operation and report discrepancies.
•Learning to conduct standardized laboratory tests on product samples.
•Perform trouble shooting of terminal equipment, processes, and load racks/units.
•Able to review and understand P&IDs and process flow diagrams.

5.Perform Safety Activities
•Maintain safety awareness for routine and non-routine tasks.
•Ensure everyone understands that every employee is responsible for his or her own safety and the safety of

others.
•Understand all applicable rules, regulations, and operating standards of the terminal and of the satellite work areas.
•Releases all work permits to be sure rules and regulations are being followed.
•Maintain all working areas in a clean and safe condition.
•Safely drive company and rented vehicles.

6.Training Activities
•Complete all formal operator training program expectation as required for job assignment.
•Complete all computer-based training as needed for job qualifications.
•Complete annual HAZWOPER training requirements.
•Complete annual medical exams and respirator fit testing.
•Assist in training and development of new trainees as needed.
•Assist in the piggyback training of new trainees as needed.

OTHER DUTIES

•Terminal Operations is a 24/7 staffed facility: Work rotating 12-hour shifts (Day and Night), including weekends and holidays.
•Position requires working overtime hours to support mandatory staffing requirements.
•Travel to support neighbor island operations as needed.
•Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
•High School Diploma or equivalent required.
•2 years’ experience in a related field, preferred.
•Strong sense of team spirit and ability to transfer it to others.
•Ability to work independently.
•Basic computer skills, proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, P&ID drawing program etc.
•Ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
•Problem solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information as appropriate.
•Interpersonal Skills—the individual maintains confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
•Willingness to commit to The Island Way (IES core values of): Kīnāʻole, Aloha, Lōkahi and Hoʻohana
•Required to participate in Respirator Program.
•Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
•Required to join Emergency Response Team (ERB). – specific to Kapolei Terminal location
•Computer based COBRA testing for Terminal Control Operator. – specific to Honolulu Terminal location
•Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
•This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
•Valid driver’s license with clean driving abstract.
•Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet packet and task deadlines.
•Willingness to maintain or increase skills.
•Willingness to be flexible with work scheduling depending on DoD fuel demand requirements.
•Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
•Must be able to obtain DOD Contractor DBIDS Card to access military property.

PAY & BENEFITS
This is a negotiated union position, and depending on location assignment, may be represented by IBEW Local 1260 (Kapolei Terminal) or USW (Honolulu Terminal). The starting hourly pay range is $35.71-$40.26.
