Scope:

Under general supervision, employee is responsible for administration and performance of Tool & Die Department activities. General duties within the department include: administration of company policies; employee training; quality and continuous improvement of departmental operations and processes; establishing departmental objectives and plans in accordance with company goals; and implementation of departmental plans. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsibilities:

  • Manage all tool and die operations while meeting company production, delivery, quality, cost, and safety objectives.
  • Analyzes engineering blueprints, operation specifications, and other shop data.
  • May review and correct design of existing tools to conform to engineering and production changes.
  • May also provide liaison service with fabrication for interpretation and correction of the design application.
  • Responsible for maintaining production schedules and quality standards for the department.
  • Assign work, delegate duties, and oversee training of Tool & Die Department personnel.
  • Develop and maintain personnel requirements for department based on current and projected production needs.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance; rewarding; and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Maintain and upgrade all tooling, equipment, computers and software utilized by department.
  • Interacts with other departments as necessary on tooling needs, document changes, new product performance, product improvements and other support issues.
  • Plan and administer procedures and work instructions for department in accordance with company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Perform tasks equal to or exceeding standards.
  • Accomplishes production quotas.
  • Working consistently, working overtime, and traveling as required.
  • Conducts himself/herself in a business-like and civil manner.
  • Ability to react to changes productively and perform other essential tasks as assigned.

  • Superior knowledge of all Tool & Die Department operations.

  • Manual dexterity to safely and proficiently operate various machine tools, machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Manual dexterity to safely and proficiently operate company office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, calculators, and personal computers.
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate all machine tools such as lathes, drill press, milling single or multiple-spindle automatic screw machines, shapers and grinders, scrapers, hand tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work with dies, jigs, fixtures, and instructions.
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods in front of a computer as required.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Ability to work well with only a modest amount of repeated instructions.
  • Be team oriented and possess flexibility and adaptability.

Work Environment:

Normal manufacturing environment with possible exposure to moving machinery, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, or other irritating articles, excessive noises, radiant or electrical energy, solvents, grease or oils, controlled chemicals and substances, exposure to slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working in close proximity with others, and working inside or outside of the building. Employee may be occasionally exposed to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
