We are currently seeking an experienced Transit Planner with 4-9 years of transit planning experience. This position will be based out of our Baltimore, MD office.
Assignments may include a variety of complex transportation projects such as operational systems redesign, route segmentation and analysis, transit scheduling, transit development and long-range plans, microtransit design and plan implementation, community, and stakeholder engagement, federal and state compliance management, National Transit Database reporting, grant writing , site selection, corridor studies, Title VI equity analysis, and surveys. Because our clients are mostly public-sector agencies, a strong commitment to meaningfully and equitable public engagement is essential. Our ideal candidate will be familiar with the various modes of transit planning or operations (bus, rail, ferry), data manipulation, mapping, and have good writing and communication skills. WRA employees have the opportunity to work on projects collaborating with WRA’s multi-disciplinary transit team providing high-quality deliverables.
Responsibilities:
Support activities that result in the creation of transit studies, transit plans, and transit compliance documentation for clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Collect, clean, and map transit data
- Analyze transit trends and identify anomalies using ArcGIS, excel, and other tools
- Create graphics, tables, and dashboards for reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate project findings and recommendations
- Write meeting memos, draft reports, white papers, and policy papers
- Develop agendas and presentations for client meetings
- Assist in organizing and facilitating public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement events
- Communicate and collaborate with clients, to address complex transit challenges
- Ability to prioritize workload, work with project team, and meet deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously
Requirements:
- 4-9 years of experience in transit planning; a graduate degree may be substituted for a portion of this experience
- Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related discipline
- Interest in working towards AICP certification as soon as the minimum required years of professional planning experience are met
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Possess the ability to listen, and understand the needs of the client
- Willingness to learn, communicate, and work together with WRA team members
- Experience in areas of transit planning including; service development, service operation, fare collection, Title VI, and federal compliance is preferred
