NEW HIGHER PAY: $33,272 - $58,226
 
The Challenge
We are hiring 2 experienced transportations workers to join our  East Wake County Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features.
    • Install traffic & erosion control devices, clear rights of way.
    • Perform roadway grading.
    • Machine unpaved roads.
    • Conduct pavement repair.
    • Install pipes or other drainage tasks.
    • Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks performed.
    • Provide emergency response including traffic accident clean-ups, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies.
    • Operate equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and other heavy equipment.
    • Perform flagging operation to safely guide traffic through work zones.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and experience in traffic control installation.
    • Experience 1+ of the following:  shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
    • Snow and ice removal operation experience.
    • Operating experience of 2+ of the following:  backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, crack sealing machine, track excavator, skid steer or sweeper.
    • A Class A Commercial Driver's License with N endorsement and ability to safely operate a Class A motor vehicle. (Don't have it?  Still apply!  You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire!)
    • Able to receive and give effective written and verbal communications and act upon verbal and written communications.
    • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, operate equipment that vibrates, and perform essential functions in extreme hot and cold weather.
    • Agility to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain.
    • Strength to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
    • Safety-toe shoes.
  
Notes
    • You will be subject to emergency call backs and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
    • We may  require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 3 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 5+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
