The Challenge
We are looking for a Utilities Coordinator to join our Division 9 team.
In this role, you will:

- Facilitate and manage the relocation, adjustment, removal, and additions of utilities along NCDOT highways and Right of Ways while maintaining the integrity, mobility, and safety of the highway system for its users.
- Manage projects and engineering resources supporting engineering design activities and project schedules for NCDOT Division Managed Project.
- Make critical recommendations and represent the Division Utility Engineer, Senior Division Utility Coordinator, and Division Construction Engineer in presenting decisions to internal and external departments to ensure project delivery schedules are maintained.
- Perform and assist in the development of final review of utility analysis and routing reports, utility relocation plans, special project provisions, project estimates, and cost responsibility determinations.
- Provide supervision and technical training to 5 to 8 contractor engineering inspectors.
What You Bring
-
- Experience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and cross sections/utility relocations.
- Experience communicating and negotiating with public agencies, contractors, and/or utility companies.
- Project management experience scheduling and coordinating multiple factors.
- Experience planning and coordinating utility relocations.
- Demonstrated ability performing duties independently with limited supervision.
- Computer skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), online databases (SAP), and CADD (MicroStation, GEOPAK).
- Knowledge in NCDOT policies for accommodating utilities for water and sewer design.
- Ability to read, interpret and effectively explain utility/construction plans, contract provisions, standard specifications, and inspection documents to utility companies, consultants, and NCDOT staff.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
-
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
