The Department of Health and Kinesiology (HK) seeks a full-time (12-month) Visiting Project Coordinator. This position will serve as project coordinator for the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey project, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis regarding youth tobacco use and related behaviors. They play a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and executing the survey to inform tobacco control efforts.
The Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey is a collaborative project funded by the CDC, executed by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the University of Illinois. The university’s college of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) faculty and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) staff will meet regularly with the IDPH team, develop survey distribution and collections systems, handle outreach to schools, data analysis and reporting.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and execute the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey across various schools and communities in the state. Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and schools, to ensure the successful execution of the survey.
Utilize survey instruments, sampling strategies, and data collection protocols in collaboration with research partners and stakeholders. Conduct advanced statistical analyses to examine trends, patterns, and determinants of youth tobacco use, employing appropriate analytical techniques and software.
Analyze survey data to identify trends and patterns in youth tobacco use and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders. This will include travel to conferences, attending virtual meetings with stakeholders, and publishing reports to share data with policymakers, public health professionals, and community advocates.
Stay abreast of relevant research, policies, and best practices in tobacco control and youth prevention efforts.
Qualifications
Required: Master’s degree in public health
One year (12 months) of work experience coordinating public health research or surveillance projects
Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders, including government agencies, schools, and community-based organizations
Preferred: Graduate and/or undergraduate study focused in epidemiology
Experience working with schools
Experience in survey research, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, preferably in tobacco control or adolescent health
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive understanding of survey methodology and research design.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks, duties, responsibilities, and deadlines, according to goals set by project lead.
Strong written and verbal communication, including documenting processes and procedures.
Strong understanding of survey methodology, data collection techniques, and statistical analysis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R)
Ability to accurately answer questions, solve problems, and work with external parties to meet needs.
Appointment Information
This position is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position of limited duration. As this position is grant funded, it is subject to the continued availability of funding and programmatic need. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The salary range for this position is $50,000.00 to $55,000.00. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
