Description
Purpose:
The Senior Writer-Editor specializing in air traffic publications is responsible for creating, maintaining, and publishing technical documentation related to air traffic publications such as orders, manuals, and publications. This role requires expertise in XML-based authoring (preferably DITA XML) and familiarity with XML editing and publishing tools. Additionally, the writer will conduct editorial reviews of correspondence while collaborating across teams and needs a familiarity of SharePoint.
The role involves working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) in air traffic control procedures to create, edit, and maintain compliant policy documentation that meets industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Document Creation & Maintenance: Author and maintain air traffic publications, including orders, directives, manuals, and publications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
- XML Authoring & DITA: Use XML authoring tools (e.g., oXygen XML Author and similar tools) and DITA XML standards to structure content for reusability and maintainability.
- Publishing & Transformation: Publish content using tools like DITA Open Toolkit and content management systems (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager Guides) in formats such as HTML and PDF.
- Collaboration with SMEs: Work with air traffic control policy experts to create, edit, and maintain air traffic publication content.
- Familiarity with SharePoint Management for correspondence review (editorial review).
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with technical writing trends, regulatory changes, and air traffic publication standards, recommending improvements to documentation processes.
- 6+ years experience in technical writing, with significant experience in XML authoring and documentation publishing.
Minimum Education and Certifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in relative field
Technical Skills Required:
- XML Authoring: Proficiency in XML authoring tools (e.g., oXygen and similar tools) and familiarity with DITA XML, and XSLT standards.
- Publishing & CMS: Experience with tools like DITA Open Toolkit and Adobe Experience Manager Guides for publishing air traffic publications.
- SharePoint: Experience managing documentation in SharePoint for version control and collaboration.
Computer Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- U.S. Citizen or person with valid U.S. Work Visa who has lived in the U.S. for 3 or more years.
- Proficiency with XML tools and content management systems for publishing air traffic content.
- Familiarity with XSLT: Knowledge of XSLT or similar technologies for automating content formatting, a plus.
- Familiarity with air traffic control systems or regulatory requirements is preferred.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear and use a computer/keyboard/mouse for several hours on a daily basis.
- May require occasional light lifting of up to 10 pounds
- The hiring range for this position is $79,000 - $123,000/year based on relevant experience and position requirements as determined by the customer parameters.
Candidates selected will be subject to a Government background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
