Corporate ESG Manager
About this Position:
The Corporate ESG Manager is responsible for managing ESG data collection and supporting assurance of ESG disclosures. As part of this role, the manager will work cross-functionally with multiple business partners and stakeholders across the firm, including Investments, Legal, Audit, Enterprise Risk, Corporate Real Estate, Procurement, Corporate Finance, Human Resources, and Distribution.
The Corporate ESG team is responsible for operational sustainability and Corporate ESG reporting. It sits within the newly-formed ESG Enablement Team (ESGET). As a member of this team, the incumbent will have an opportunity to work across multiple areas of the firm and build his/her expertise in a growing area.
Role Summary
The role requires some familiarity with ESG frameworks, such as SASB and TCFD, an understanding of materiality concepts, and commonly disclosed ESG metrics (e.g., greenhouse gas inventory).
Principal Responsibilities:
- Collects data and information for disclosure in the firm’s ESG reports.
- Manages systems and controls for data collection.
- Supports processes and documentation necessary to obtain assurance of ESG disclosures.
- Conceptualizes data storytelling and data visualization.
- Conducts benchmarking to evaluate ESG disclosures across the industry.
- Monitors evolving landscape of ESG reporting frameworks.
- Supports responses to client RFPs and completes questionnaires for ESG ratings agencies.
- Provides feedback to help improve methods for monitoring advancement of ESG goals and offers recommendations to ensure progress towards goals.
- Supports the success of the ESG Enablement Team by contributing to team projects and activities that sit outside Corporate ESG on an ad hoc basis. These projects and activities are anticipated to be no more than 20% of the incumbent’s time.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND
- 5+ years of total relevant work experience
Preferred:
- Knowledge of ESG Reporting frameworks (e.g., SASB, TCFD, GRI).
- Experience with GHG inventory, energy, supply chain, and waste related data sets.
- Ability to build effective partnerships and influence others without having explicit authority.
- Able to think big picture, see the connection points across seemingly separate topics, and drill down into details—an ability to see both the forest and the trees.
- Being able to weigh multiple stakeholder interests, some of which are competing, and find middle grounds that are acceptable to most.
- Ability to remain organized and meet deadlines in fast paced environment.
- Passion for sustainability is helpful, but it must be coupled with a strategic mindset and a drive towards measurable business outcomes.
