This position provides complex professional work ensuring proper application of Civil Engineering principles and techniques, for the Stormwater & Drainage Management Department.  Oversees, plans and directs the work of assigned personnel.

Stormwater Engineer

  • Provides support to the Stormwater & Drainage Director in the review, planning, and design of stormwater systems throughout the County.
  • Provides support to Stormwater & Drainage Management Staff as required.
  • Supervises and assists with maintenance of the Asset Management Program of Nassau County’s Stormwater Department.
  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel; supervisory duties may include instructing; planning, assigning and reviewing work of others; maintaining standards coordinating activities; allocating personnel; assisting with new employee selection; completing employee evaluations; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline; offering training, advice and assistance as needed.
  • Provides guidance to assigned personnel in solving engineering conflicts.
  • Reviews Building Permit applications to ensure lot grading and fill requirements are met.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and presents technical analyses of stormwater systems for public hearings.
  • Advises technical staff in highly complex technical matters with regard to stormwater and drainage issues.
  • Attends Development Review Committee meetings as needed.
  • Attends public hearings, meetings, and pre-construction conferences, etc., concerning projects as needed.
  • Provides specific input in association with other staff members to review, develop and update existing rules, regulations, ordinances, specifications, and procedures associated with land development and Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Reviews technical documents as submitted by engineers and developers for compliance with Nassau County Code of Ordinances, Right-of-Way, Development Review, etc.
  • Meets with citizens, developers, and staff to discuss proposed projects as directed.
  • Reviews technical documents as submitted by engineers and developers.
  • Meets with developers and staff to discuss proposed projects.
  • Prepares status reports as directed. Prepares exhibits to aid in Board decision making.
  • Performs and completes special projects as assigned.
  • Attends training, continuing education, seminars, etc. to enhance and maintain essential skills.
  • Performs a variety of routine administrative duties as required, which may include but are not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering computer data, attending and preparing minutes of meetings, answering the phone, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Board of County Commissioners, County Attorney, subordinates, County employees, developers, engineers, contractors, consultants, municipal personnel, various other Local, State, Federal agencies, vendors and the general public.
  • Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment which may include a computer, printer, fax machine, copier, calculator, telephone, two-way radio; utilizes an engineering and architectural scale, etc.
  • Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Sr. Stormwater Engineer

  • Plans, manages, coordinates and supervises the stormwater and drainage functions and programs of the Nassau County Stomwater and Drainage Management Department.
  • Designs stormwater management systems, supervises stormwater drainage program and conducts on-site inspections relating to stormwater management.
  • Supervises professional, technical, supervisory and support staff; supervisory duties include instructing; planning, assigning and reviewing work; maintaining standards, coordinating activities, selecting new employees; allocating personnel; acting on employee problems recommending employee promotions, transfers, discipline and discharge; and performance appraisals.
  • Reviews the work of subordinate staff for completeness and accuracy; evaluates performance and makes recommendations; offers advice and assistance as needed.
  • Provides technical support and engineering services to the Road Department, Solid Waste and Nassau Amelia Utilities Divisions, including Capital Improvement Program and permitting.
  • Provides for the adequate training and development of division employees.
  • Ensures division compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates division activities with other division, departments, agencies and utilities as required.
  • Prepares, processes and submits various documents, survey exhibits, engineering drawings, blueprints, contracts, permits, various reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
  • Prepares agenda items for Stormwater and Drainage Management Director’s review.
  • Prepares exhibit materials.
  • Provides support to Stormwater & Drainage Management Staff as required.

Stormwater Engineer

Requires a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Must possess a State of  Florida Certificate as an Engineer in Training or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess a valid State Driver's License.

Sr. Stormwater Engineer

Requires a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant field and five (5) years or more of engineering and/or engineering service management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Experience in working with one or more of the following areas: Development Review or Roadway Maintenance including innovative roadway surface treatment applications and rehabilitation of existing Stormwater systems.   Must possess a Professional Engineer License issued by the State of Florida and remain licensed.Must possess a valid State Driver's License.

The range for this position is $62,547.19 – $115,159.55. The County provides a comprehensive benefits program and participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and has a 3% employee contribution requirement.
