Custodial Supervisor Night Shift

    The Custodial Supervisor plans, schedules, supervises, trains, and coordinates the required custodial and maintenance services to ensure a high standard of cleanliness throughout buildings and facilities owned and/or operated by the Airport Board.

    Schedule

    The Night Shift Custodial Supervisor is regularly scheduled to work from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Wednesday 4:30 pm to 1:00 am. As a department leader, this person must be flexible to work at least one evening a week and from time to time to work nights, weekends and/or holidays to conduct meetings and provide assistance as required.     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Builds and maintains a best-in-class Building Maintenance department. Provides immediate supervision for all custodial employees; motivating, developing, and directing people as they work.

      • Participates in the hiring process: recruits, interviews, and onboards new team members
      • Identifies individual and team growth areas. Follows up with development and training
      • Conduct annual performance appraisals. Accurately assesses subordinates and uses the performance management process to engage employees by setting goals that meet personal and organizational objectives
      • Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
    • Develops, with input from leadership, department goals, objectives, work activities and employee schedules
      • Manages basic preventative maintenance and cleaning schedules (includes daily and as needed tasks such as shampooing and window washing)
      • Serves as the primary liaison for departmental work orders and maintains records in an electronic work order system
    • Creates employee work schedules, and ensures complete coverage of the facility
    • Communicates expectations, tasks, and goals clearly and effectively via correspondence, phone calls, Everbridge App, text, and conducting regular meetings with department employees
    • Address employee concerns, performance issues, conflicts in a timely manner
    • Keeps immediate supervisor and Vice President, Human Resources informed of all staff departures, and employee concerns, documents all employee coaching and counseling sessions, submit all documentation to HR within two weeks of session.
    • Ensures department has equipment, tools & materials necessary for assignments
      • Assist leadership by articulating needs, recommending major equipment purchases, and developing budgets
      • Orders cleaning supplies and materials
    • Maintains knowledge of industry best practices. Develop janitorial procedures for all activities, a variety of furnishings, floor, and wall materials, in interior and exterior areas
    • Monitors all federal, state, and local laws related to field. Ensure tasks are done timely, efficiently and in accordance with applicable standards and codes
    • Prioritizes and advocates for safety with staff. Ensure all custodial staff are aware of, understand and comply with the OSHA Hazard Communication standards including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other airport safety programs
    • Trains staff in safety procedures including blood borne pathogens (BBP), handling of equipment, chemicals, and the use of safety signs. Completes detailed training logs
    • Coordinates and assists with snow and ice removal on all shifts
    • Make certain that custodial services meet the needs of the airport and establish guidelines by adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities
    • Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial staff and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines
    • Manages custodial uniform services
    • Coordinates waste recycling and general trash pickup programs
    • Functions as a working supervisor to provide extra capacity as needed or if short staffed
    • Assists other airport departments with special events logistics and cleaning
    • Identifies the need for and oversees maintenance by contractors or external partners at all airport facilities
    • Maintains positive and goal-focused relationships with all contractors, tenants, staff, and guests. Thoughtfully and proactively coordinates activities with stakeholders (e.g., shutting off bathrooms for service)
    • Communicates to all appropriate staff and tenants anticipated and emergency changes to services, such as bathrooms being closed
    • Arranges and oversees escorting for all vendors
    • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Must have a high school degree or equivalent
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in janitorial services, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory capacity or the equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Experience working in an airport or public facing environment preferred
    • Possess the skills, aptitude, and situational judgement to successfully manage a front-line custodial team. Experience in performance management and customer service a plus
