Custodial Crew Leader Day Shift

The Custodial Crew Leader assists with the planning, scheduling and supervision of custodial staff and participates in providing the required custodial services for assigned buildings; coordinates such services and activities; and performs related work as required. Acts as Custodial Supervisor, as required.
Compensation
Starting salary range: $40,728 - $45,819 ($19.58 - $22.03 per hour). The position is eligible for overtime. Employees are eligible for a $750 incentive on their paychecks quarterly. Schedule
Crew Leaders typically work four 10-hour shifts a week, Wednesday 8 am- 6:30 pm, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday 6 am-4:30 pm, plus occasional training
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform the duties of a Custodian I and II in a manner that sets the example for other team members
- Performs general administrative duties for department functions when directed
- Prepares timecards and/or work schedules in the absence of Custodial Supervisor
- Assumes role of Custodial Supervisor in their absence
- Participates in job interviews
- Prepares input on performance appraisals of subordinates
- Assists in immediate supervision for all Custodian I and II employees
- Is responsible for supervision of and participation in the custodial services of assigned buildings
- Ensures that all employees are trained, are aware of, understand and comply with the OSHA Hazard Communication standards including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other safety programs
- Is responsible for coordinating and documenting all department training activities and functions
- Develops custodial procedures
- Promotes a comfortable atmosphere in which new employees will be motivated to grow and succeed
- Familiarizes new employees with work routines
- Mixes cleaning chemicals
- Performs a variety of cleaning and trash removal activities
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment, including mobile devices
- Replace small equipment such as soap and towel dispensers
- Removes snow from sidewalks
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have a high school degree or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in janitorial services, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory capacity or the equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Experience working in an airport or public facing environment preferred
- Possess the skills, aptitude, and situational judgement to successfully manage a front-line custodial team. Experience in performance management and customer service a plus
- Self-motivated, takes initiative, and has the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction or oversight
- Must have technological skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) or other applicable computer programs
- Ability to operate and teach usage of web-based HR systems to:
- Enter timecard information
- Request and approve time off
- Plan and adjust a department schedule
- View paystubs
- Update personal information
- Elect benefits
- Complete and approve appraisals
- Add notes and goals to an appraisal
- A self-starter who can balance:
- Developing work procedures to improve quality and efficiency of janitorial services
- Developing strategic short-term and long-term planning and share recommendations to leadership
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders: employees, tenants, vendors, customers, and the traveling public
- Command the English language to effectively communicate verbally and prepare concise reports and written correspondence.
- Knowledge of and willingness to learn best practices, methods, techniques, equipment, and materials used in cleaning and maintenance of buildings
- Ability to develop expertise, teach, operate, and perform various custodial duties and related janitorial equipment including hand operated and ride-on equipment without supervision
- Must demonstrate willingness to learn and the initiative to stay current on all organizational and industry polices, procedures, and standards
- Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress
- Must be available for call back during adverse weather conditions & emergency situations
- Availability to work outside normal scheduled hours as needed Ex: handling calls from employees, emergency issues, staff questions, coordinating coverage
- Bi-lingual ability, particularly the ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is a plus
